Concealed carry, or CCW (carrying a concealed weapon), refers to the act of carrying a concealed handgun or other weapon in public. This can be done on one's person or in proximity. Conceal and carry legislation is currently being discussed in our State Capitol and there is a good chance Wisconsin will be the 49th state to allow its practice.

After the law gets passed, citizens in Wisconsin looking to express their right to conceal and carry will need to be certified by taking a class.

Milford Hills Hunt Club will hold concealed carry classes to fulfil this need. Class specifics will be announced as soon as the State of Wisconsin decides and votes on the bill.

Classes will fill up fast! Preregister below to add yourself to our mailing list. Be one of the first to find out class times and information!

Milford Hills Hunt Club Receives Hunter Education Award
October 2010

Johnson Creek, WI – The Milford Hills Hunt Club was awarded the “Wisconsin DNR Hunter Education Award” for outstanding support and contributions to Wisconsin’s hunter education program. This was achieved through hosting hunter safety workshops, education courses, banquets, and filming events for international service announcements.

Hunter Education Award“Milford Hills is an integral part of Wisconsin’s hunter education program” explained Timothy J. Lawhern, Hunter Education Administration and Conservation Warden for the state of Wisconsin and president of the International Hunter Education Association. “With generous contributions from individuals and clubs like Milford Hills, Wisconsin has been able to achieve the most successful hunter education program in the country”.

The award was established to give back to the individuals and organizations that show outstanding contributions to Wisconsin’s Hunter Education Program. Since being introduced, only three such awards have been given out. The acrylic Wisconsin shaped award features the name of the recipient and is modeled after Wisconsin’s hunter education challenge coin which is given to instructors within the program. The hunter education program’s mission is etched on the plaque and reads “To educate hunters to be safe, knowledgeable and responsible.” The backside of the challenge coin lists the four basic rules of firearms safety:

- Treat every firearm as if it is loaded.
- Always point the muzzle in a safe direction
- Be certain of your target and what is beyond it
- Keep your finger outside the trigger guard until ready to shoot

Since 1967 nearly 1 million Wisconsinites have graduated from Wisconsin’s Hunter Education program. Over 5,000 volunteers donate their time to instruct 30,000 participating students annually; Wisconsin has the largest program in the country.

“Over the past 40 years we have successfully reduced the amount of hunting accidents by 90%. We are down to incidents in the single digits” informed Lawhern. “I can directly attribute this to the thousands of active volunteers in the program, awareness from Wisconsin hunters, and institutions like Milford Hills that donate their facility, staff, and time.”

Dan & Lloyd Marks, co owners of Milford Hills accepted the award earlier this month. “Being a part of Wisconsin’s hunter education program means a lot to us. We all need to do our part in promoting a safe hunting environment”.

The Milford Hills Hunt club offers upland hunting, sporting clays, a full restaurant, and facility rental for events such as fund raisers and weddings. Further information can be found at http://www.milfordhills.com and http://milfordhillsweddings.com.
